Despite Hunter Thompson‘s 2-4 performance at the plate on Thursday, Sioux Falls Post 15 West took a 10-4 loss at the hands of Brookings at Bob Shelden Field.
Thompson led Sioux Falls Post 15 West’s offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He singled in the second and fourth innings.
Jared Tschetter recorded the win for Brookings . He allowed two runs over six innings. Tschetter struck out four, walked none and gave up six hits.
Brookings was sparked by Tschetter and Caleb Stratmoen, who teamed up for six hits and four RBIs.
Tyler Hayes couldn’t get it done on the hill for Sioux Falls Post 15 West, taking a loss. He allowed eight runs in two innings, walked three and struck out one.
Brookings went up for good in the first, scoring two runs on a two-run double by Chris Lerdal.
Brookings added two more runs in the bottom of the second. Stratmoen started the inning with a single, bringing home Tschetter.
Brookings increased its lead with four runs in the third. The inning looked promising, as Tschetter singled, plating Tyler Kreutner to kick things off. That was followed up by Stratmoen’s double, plating Cody Niklason, Brandin Heesch and Tschetter.
One run in the top of the fourth helped Sioux Falls Post 15 West close its deficit to 8-1. A sacrifice fly by Austin Wise fueled Sioux Falls Post 15 West’s comeback. Tschetter ended the inning by getting Connor Hurley to ground out.
A one-run sixth inning helped bring Sioux Falls Post 15 West within seven. A sacrifice fly by Austin Wise gave Sioux Falls Post 15 West life. The Sioux Falls Post 15 West threat came to an end when Tschetter finally got Alex Fiegen to ground out.
Two runs in the top of the ninth helped Sioux Falls Post 15 West close its deficit to 10-4. An RBI single by Jalen Boyd and an error sparked Sioux Falls Post 15 West’s rally. Brookings ‘s Kreutner induced a Isaac Nelsen fly out to close things out.
